The Savoy Hotel is part of a group which owns the Sierra Hotel next door and neighbouring Royal Savoy and Villas. It also runs the square mile of restaurants, entertainment and shops called SOHO Square which attracts international visitors and is just minutes from the hotel.
Who for
Celebrities such as Paul McCartney and Peter Andre are fans of this part of Sharm which is more exclusive than the crowded area around Naarma bay. Affluent Europeans favour the Savoy and the Royal Savoy. It is popular with families because of the range of activities the hotel also hosts regular weddings and honeymooners.
Service
Staff are charming and obliging and delighted to be welcoming tourists back to the country, so they go out of their way to be hospitable.
Rooms
The Savoy has 414 rooms, 13 diplomatic suites, 46 triple and family rooms and 2 rooms for guests with special needs. I stayed in a comfortable Pool View room which was bright and airy and furnished in a cool modern style. There are also garden view rooms. Rooms have air conditioning, TV, mini-bar and a well-equipped bathroom.
Food & Drink
There are five restaurants including the buffet style Tirana, Italian Rosmarino, Caligula which serves ‘hot rocks’ – meat cooked at your table on stone, Eest Pan Asian restaurant and Seafood Island, a seafood grill on the beach with great views and fresh fish.
The relaxing Safari bar is in the lobby and there is White Knight beach bar and the Rocky Pool Bar.
Guests can also eat at 15 restaurants in the Soho Square complex just minutes away from the hotel, so there is no shortage of dining options.
Facilities
The hotel has its own private beach, diving centre and watersports centre. There are three adult swimming pools and 2 children’s pools. Sports facilities include tennis courts and beach volleyball.
There is a Wellness Spa and fitness centre and a Kids’ Club which arranges film nights, discos and games.
The bright and lively Soho Square has a bowling alley, ice skating rink, many shops, a playground and numerous nightclubs and bars with live entertainment and music.
Local activities
Away from the hotel there are a number of interesting tours including quad bike and camel ride adventures in the nearby Sinai Desert. Buggy rides are available for younger travellers and a Bedouin feast in the desert comes with entertainment including belly dancers and fire eaters and can be accompanied by a star gazing experience with an astronomer. Boat trips to the Ras Mohammed national park can be arranged from the harbour at Sharm and longer day trips include tours to St Catherine’s Monastery and Dahab.
