Nutty Walking Tour of Nottingham

479

You may not realise it but Nottingham – a city in the East Midlands of England – has plenty of quirky history. Its claim to fame is firmly rooted in Robin Hood – the legendary outlaw who eluded the Sheriff of Nottingham – and Brian Clough OBE one of the most famous English football players and manager (of Nottingham Forest Club) of the 60s and 70s.

You’ll see the larger than life statue of Brian Clough in the heart of the city in a defiant pose.

There’s lots of amazing architecture that can only be found here. These red brick buildings with blue lines were designed and built by Watson Fothergill an English architect who produced over 100 of these in Nottingham.

The Sheriff points out a small statue of Queen Victoria looking quite miserable on one of them. Apparently the two didn’t like each other and Queen Victoria was not amused.

And so it goes on often with plenty of humour, for a full-on 90 minutes with a quick stop in St Mary’s Church, the biggest in England followed by another pit stop at Pitcher and Piano pub/bar – a watering hole that was fashioned out of a decommissioned church and which makes a great place for a quick pint.
