The nortoriously elusive street artist, Banksy, has created a new attraction, Dismaland Bemusement Park in Weston-Super-Mare. However, entry is just as elusive as he is.
Many Banksy fans who were hoping to get tickets to see the attraction were left empty handed as the Dismaland website crashed after receiving more than six million hits.
There is hope though. Tickets will be available again on Tuesday 25th August, otherwise pay at the door – though you can expect long queues.
Dismaland is situated on the site of the derelict Tropicana lido and the show includes images that may make some squirm including a Jimmy Saville-themed Punch and Julie show, a crashed Cinderella’s carriage surrounded by paparazzi photographers, a Jeffrey Archer memorial fire pit where one of his novels are burned each day and a model boat pond with vessels packed with asylum seekers.
The website is unapologetic describing Dismaland as “a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism”.
“Are you looking for an alternative to the sugar-coated tedium of the average family day out? Or just somewhere a lot cheaper? Then this is the place for you.”
“Bring the whole family to come and enjoy the latest addition to our chronic leisure surplus.”
There is a caution too “Contains uneven floor surfaces, extensive use of strobe lighting, imagery unsuitable for small children, and swearing”.
“The following are strictly prohibited in the Park – spray paint, marker pens, knives and legal representatives of the Walt Disney Corporation.”
Dismaland Bemusement Park is open for five weeks only to September 27 and costs £3, either for a day ticket (11am- 6pm) or evening ticket (7pm-11pm). Kids under 5 can go free.
