Eurostar trains cancelled today and tomorrow as French railway workers strike with more action for the next 3 months

Eurostar has been forced to cancel a number of trains to and from Paris, Lille and Brussels today and tomorrow as French railway workers go on strike.

Why are French railway workers striking?

President Emmanuel Macron plans to modernise France’s economy with a shake-up of the SNCF rail monopoly and open it up to competition. This has sparked industrial action to protest against the move – even though it is required by EU law.

So how often will they strike?

Unions plan to strike for two days in every five and this is likely to disrupt services throughout spring and into early summer.

What do I do if my train is cancelled?

If you are booked to travel over the next two days Eurostar is offering an alternative trip or a full refund.

The cross-Channel train operator points out that even if your train is not cancelled, onward journeys in France on French domestic rail services will be disrupted by the SNCF strikes.

Those who have booked connecting journeys in France and wish to cancel or change their bookings should contact Eurostar. It said requests would be fulfilled subject to availability.

Is my trip to Disneyland ruined?

The good news is that trains to Disneyland Paris have been re-routed. Departures are as follows: 10.14 from London, 10.34 from Ebbsfleet and 10.58 from Ashford and will arrive in Paris at 14.03 instead of Marne-la-Vallee with a scheduled stop in Lille. The return trains will depart from Paris Gare du Nord instead of Marne-la-Vallee.

How do I stay informed?
